Southeast Missouri State University's agriculture department will host the 1994 District Future Farmers of America (FFA) Contests March 15 and March 18-19.
About 700 students and 275 teams will participate in the events, which will begin March 15 in Bloomfield, with students competing in agricultural mechanics and agricultural sales. These contests are scheduled for 4 p.m.
At 1 p.m. March 18, students will compete in the areas of dairy foods, farm management, field crops, floriculture, livestock, poultry and soils.
On March 19 at 8 a.m., students will compete in dairy cattle, entomology, extemporaneous public speaking, forestry, FFA knowledge, meats and nursery/landscaping. At 8:15 a.m., contests will begin for students competing in the areas of creed speaking, public speaking and parliamentary procedure. Students competing in the area of officer interviews will do so at 8:30 a.m.
Students will compete at a number of area sites including the Southeast Missouri State University Demonstration Farm, Fruitland Dressed Meats, Trail of Tears State Park and area farms. Teams competing are from: Advance, Bernie, Bloomfield, Campbell, Cape Girardeau, Charleston, Delta R-5, Dexter, Doniphan, East Prairie, Farmington, Fredericktown, Holcomb, Jackson, Kelly, Naylor, Neelyville, New Madrid, Oran, Perryville, Puxico, Richland, Ste. Genevieve, Southland, Twin Rivers and Woodland.
High ranking teams in each contest will advance to the state finals April 21-22 at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
