Southeast's tennis team suffered its second OVC home loss of the weekend as a tough Eastern Kentucky squad prevailed 6-1 Sunday.

The Redhawks (5-12, 2-5) posted their only victory at No. 1 singles as Bryce Kristal defeated Meredith Giles. The players split sets, then decided things in a super tie-breaker since the team outcome had already been determined.

The Colonels (11-10, 4-3) won the other five singles matches and all three doubles contests to capture the doubles point.

"Eastern Kentucky is a very solid team," said Southeast coach Jay Pacelli, whose squad lost to Morehead State 4-3 on Saturday. "We battled them well, but they're very good."

Southeast has a non-conference home match Wednesday, facing Southern Indiana at 2:30 p.m. The Redhawks' next OVC match is Friday at Eastern Illinois.

Softball splits OVC pair

The Southeast Missouri State softball team bounced back from a first-game loss to salvage a split of Sunday's Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader at Tennessee State.

Southeast dropped the opener 3-1 but romped 14-0 in a run-rule nightcap that ended after five innings. The Redhawks (16-13, 5-4) took two of three from the Tigers (5-22, 1-8) in the weekend series.

Amy Fahnestock (10-5) pitched a four-hit shutout for her second win of the series. She struck out four and walked one.

The Redhawks supported Fahnestock with 10 hits, led by Megan McDonald with two. Southeast took advantage of six errors as only three runs were earned.

In the opener, Southeast had just four hits, two by Lindsay Webb. Stephanie Huffman pitched only one inning but took the loss as TSU scored two first-inning runs.

Southeast has a non-conference home doubleheader Wednesday, against powerhouse Southern Illinois at 3 p.m. The Redhawks host Eastern Kentucky in a three-game OVC series this weekend.
