Southeast Missouri State University's women's soccer team picked up its first Ohio Valley Conference victory of the season Sunday as the Otahkians slipped past host Austin Peay 1-0 in Clarksville, Tenn.

The Otahkians improved to 6-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 in OVC play. The Govs fell to 5-4-1 and 0-2.

Southeast scored the game's only goal early in the second half as Marla Gianino found the back of the net off a rebound. Jessi Wuellner received an assist.

The Otahkians held a 14-4 edge in shots. Southeast keeper Amanda Wrzos made three saves to record the shutout.

Southeast has its first OVC home game Sunday as Morehead State visits Houck Stadium for a 2 p.m. start.

Cross country wins meet

Southeast's women's cross country team won Saturday's Greater Louisville Classic in a field of 39 squads. The Otahkians had 120 points to edge George State (127).

Sophomore Lindsay Zeiler led the Otahkians by finishing 12th in the 5K race with a time of 18:37. Junior Jennifer Caywood was 14th (18:41) and junior Brooke Woodruff 16th (18:45).

Southeast's were 14th among 41 teams. Senior Brian Whitehead led the Indians by placing 43rd in the 8K race in 25:58. Junior Gabe Lutes was 59th (26:16) and freshman Kevin McNab was 101st (26:50).
