From engineering to entrepreneurship to pottery to product design, Southeast Missouri State University's Horizons Summer Youth Enrichment program has several options for area youths.

The camps, offered to children ages 5 to 14, explore numerous career paths. Each course uses a hands-on approach to learning that incorporates laboratory experiments or physical activity, a Southeast news release stated.

Horizons classes being offered this summer for ages 9 to 14 include "CSI -- Monsters," "Jr. CEO," "Camp Scrubs," "Be a Designer!," "Pulp Fiction and Non Fiction," "Urban Legend Camp," "Myth Busters," "Pottery Rocks!," "Animation Adventure," "Jr. Zookeeper," "3D Monster Mash-Up," "Launch Your Line," "Weird Science," "Robots Rock! LEGO Robotics," "Jr. Mediarologist with Bob Clubbs" and more.

Little Horizons offers the following classes to children ages 5 to 8: "Superhero Science," "Storytelling with Clay," "Safari Adventures," "Let it Go: Frozen Art Workshop," "Meet the Penguins" and more.

Courses will be held on Southeast's campus and the surrounding areas. Building and room assignments, along with a campus map, are sent with confirmation to registrants.

The Horizons program includes three sessions: June 15 to 19, June 22 to 26 and July 6 to 10. The program offers morning sessions from 9 a.m. to noon and afternoon sessions from 1 to 4 p.m.

Classes are restricted to 18 participants. All instructors in the program are professionally trained and have practical teaching experience in the areas of instruction, according to the university.

Most instructors are Southeast professors. Classes that include lab experiments or are physically active will have an assistant to provide additional guidance.

Youths will receive a T-shirt for each course in which they enroll.

Classes range in price from $100 to $129. Registrations are on a first-come, first-served basis.
