Area residents interested in exploring new avenues and sharpening their skills may enroll in any of 70 non-degree classes for the fall semester at Southeast Missouri State University.

Both day and evening classes are being offered for non-degree seeking students in the areas of art, science, recreation, communication, health, literature, music, religion and business.

"There are many attractive and interesting classes being offered on campus this fall," said Southeast President Kala Stroup. "This is an opportunity for us to extend our mission of public service to the region."

A limited number of openings are available in the slate of classes, which include "Introduction to the New Testament," "Aerobic Dance," "Computing," "Social Problems in America," "Modern Art," "Contemporary Business," "Introduction to Organized Recreation," "Introduction to Health," "Security Systems" and "Ornamental Plants."

Classes begin the week of Aug. 26.

Cost for a three-hour class, including textbooks, parking and other fees is $229. Each additional semester hour is $69. A maximum of six semester hours may be taken.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for people in the community who want to take a class or two for personal enjoyment. They can explore new fields or brush up on knowledge and skills in a particular area," said Fred Snider, dean of admissions and records. "And it's extremely easy to enroll. All you have to do is pick up the phone and use your Visa or Mastercard."

To register, or for more information, call (314) 651-2981 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Visa and Mastercard payment will be accepted.
