Three Southeast students won top honors in competition at the Missouri Music Teachers Association State Convention last weekend in Warrensburg.

A total of 24 musicians from universities across the state competed.

Patryce King of Marcelline won collegiate honors-piano in the upper division competition for juniors and seniors.

She performed works by Scarlatti, Haydn and Schubert.

Pianist Diana Weaver of Cape Girardeau won collegiate honors in the lower division, which is for freshmen and sophomores.

She played works by Bach, Debussy and Liszt.

Both King and Weaver are students of Dr. James Sifferman, an associate professor of music at Southeast.

Winning collegiate honors in brass was Josh Miller of Cape Girardeau, whose instrument is the euphonium. Miller is a student of Dr. Robert Gifford.

Flutist Maggie Montgomery, a junior at southeast, won an honorable mention in the collegiate woodwind competition.

She is from Washington, Mo.

Also competing in the collegiate division was flutist Shelly Statler of Perryville.

Montgomery and Statler are students of Southeast faculty member Paul Thompson.
