The Southeast Missouri Music Academy will offer a beginner piano class for adults and a Music, Movement and More session for children.

Registration deadline for both classes, which will run from Oct. 4 through Nov. 22, is Sept. 23.

The adult class is for beginners and those interested in brushing up on the skills they learned as a child. Classes will be taught in a light atmosphere in groups of six to 12 students.

Among the skills that will be taught are rhythm reading, proper hand position, basic chord structure and ensemble playing.

Classes will meet in the Electronic Piano Studio on Mondays from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m.

The required textbook will be available at the first class meeting at a cost of less than $10. Students must have access to a piano for practice.

Jeanne Tjaden will be teaching the adult class.

Music, Movement and More is designed for children 4, 5 and 6 years of age and is a program that utilizes musical instruments made for youths.

The class, which will be taught by Pam Dumey, will expose children to basic musicaal concepts through singing, playing instruments and creative movement.

The 4, 5 and 6-year-old classes will meet for 30 minutes twice a week in an eight-week session. Students must be 4 years old before July 1, 1994. All materials are included in the fee.
