Beginning Saturday, the Southeast Missourian will add a weekly feature page on religion.

With the addition of a Religion page, the Health page will be published on Friday instead of Saturday.

Since the church page ran each Saturday, it seemed logical to add the new feature then and move the Health page to another day, said Laura Johnston, religion editor at the Southeast Missourian.

Religion, the new feature page, will include full-color coverage of religious issues, church activities and programs in Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois, as well as maintaining the regular church briefs and columns enjoyed by readers.

"For many people in the region, faith and religion are an important part of their life and I want the Southeast Missourian to reflect that," Johnston said.

As churches have grown and religious activities gained attention over the years, news coverage has improved. Stories to be covered in Religion include features on mission work, community ministries and new programs.

Deadline for submitting information about church activities and meetings is noon, Wednesday.

Call Johnston at 335-6611, ext. 126 for more information or to submit church news.
