Subscriptions to the printed Southeast Missourian will now include unlimited access to content across digital platforms, publisher Jon K. Rust announced today.
Rust details the business decision in a column that appears on today's opinion page. Rust said that a new technology platform developed in-house will allow integration with the newspaper's subscription system. The Southeast Missourian's previous partner, Google One Pass, was unable to integrate databases, requiring print subscribers to pay separately for unlimited access to semissourian.com.
Rust also announced that the newspaper will soon launch an app for the iPhone as well as other mobile products that will also be included in the print subscription. The newspaper has already developed a mobile-friendly website.
"In other words," Rust said, "subscribing to the print newspaper, which includes many features unavailable online -- like coupons, pre-print inserts, Dear Abby, comic strips, nationally syndicated columnists and much more -- just became more valuable."
The newspaper's website currently limits the number of free "premium" content views such as news stories, blogs and records. Other basic content, such as section fronts, classifieds, forums, photos and submitted content remains unlimited and free to everyone.
Non-print subscribers still have the option of paying for an online premium subscription. They will be notified by email or called on the phone on how to make the transition from the Google One Pass system to the current one.
For information on how to register on the new system, go to www.semissourian.com/access or call 388-3680.
