Southeast Missouri State University will host a debate among the four candidates for the 8th District congressional seat from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday in the Shuck Recital Hall at the River Campus. Candidates vying for the seat are Larry Bill, U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson, Tommy Sowers and Rick Vandeven. Dr. Thomas Harte, professor emeritus of speech communication and theater at Southeast, will be the moderator. Panelists will be Mike Smythe, vice president and general manager of KFVS12 and WQWQ-TV, and Jon Rust, publisher of the Southeast Missourian and co-president of Rust Communications. The debate will be televised live by WQWQ and will be streamed live on www.kfvs12.com and www.semissourian.com. The debate also will be carried live by KRCU 90.9 FM/KSEF 88.9 FM, Southeast's National Public Radio station and its website, www.semo.edu/sepr. No public tickets are available.
