The fifth annual Student Research Conference will be held Tuesday and Wednesday at Southeast Missouri State University.
The conference will be held at the University Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. A reception will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday for all student participants and their faculty sponsors.
Students are scheduled to present 71 papers and 18 poster submissions during the conference. The students are majoring in a various fields, including biology, chemistry, criminal justice, English, industrial technology, mass communication and psychology.
Students presenting 23 papers and five posters will compete for the Best Paper and Best Poster Presentation Awards.
On Tuesday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., Dr. Dale Nitzschke, Southeast's president, will serve as moderator for a roundtable discussion on the topic "The Value of Conducting Research as an Undergraduate." Several students who have presented their research at past conferences will participate.
The following day, at 12:30 p.m., as part of the Common Hour observance, a keynote speech will be presented by Dr. Patricia H. Miller on the topic "Undergraduate Research: What's Hot, and What's Not." Miller is a professor of psychology and associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Florida. She is a fellow of the American Psychological Association.
For the first time, students at Mineral Area Community College at Park Hills have been invited to participate and area high school students have been encouraged to attend.
