Adults, preschoolers and kindergarteners are the focus of special classes offered during the fall semester by the Southeast Missouri Music Academy.
The academy is a non-profit organization under the auspices of Southeast Missouri State University's music department.
The adult piano class is designed for beginners and those wishing to brush up on skills learned as a child.
Classes start "at the beginning" and are taught in a light "just for fun" atmosphere in groups of six to 12 students, said Becky Fulgham, academy director. Skills to be taught include note and rhythm reading, proper hand position, basic chord structure and ensemble playing. The classes will meet in the electronic piano studio Thursdays from 6-7:30 p.m.
The fall class, taught by Ginger Shearon, will run from Oct. 3 to Nov. 21.
The academy's popular early childhood class, "Music, Movement & More," has been expanded to include two age groups. A 3-4 year old class, taught by Stephanie Fridley, has been added to give younger children a chance to join the action. The class, which runs from Oct. 1 to Nov. 21, will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10-10:30 a.m.
The one-year-pre-kindergarten and kindergarten class will be taught by Christy Roethemeyer. The class will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-4:30 p.m., from Sept. 30 to Nov. 20.
Registration is required. Call Fulgham at (573) 651-2378.
