The Southeast Missouri Council of the Boy Scouts of America will be pounding the pavement in October as they kick off their annual sale of Trail's End Gourmet Popcorn. The sale begins Tuesday, and runs through Oct. 21.
Scout Executive for the Southeast Missouri Council, Mark Wappel, said the popcorn sale helps to provide supplemental income to finance a wide range of Scouting activities. "Escalating program costs, the need for camp equipment and maintenance, as well as continued growth in youth participation, have prompted the Executive Board of the Council to seek additional sources of support," said Wappel.
Executive Board President Robert Gardner emphasized the primary income for Scouting activities will continue to come from community support through the United Way and the sustaining membership enrollment program of the council.
Last year, the Southeast Missouri Council sold 35,000 containers of popcorn and raised more than $80,000 for council and local unit activities. The council has set a goal of $100,000 this year.
