Young people who have given time and service to Southeast Missouri Hospital patients and employees were honored recently at a luncheon hosted by the hospital.
The luncheon included the recognition of junior and student volunteers by Volunteer Services Director Charlotte Sargent and her associate Carole Limbach as well as a program by nurse Barb McKeon.
The 99 junior volunteers contributed a total of 1,969 hours of service to the hospital from Aug. 1, 1992 through July 31, 1993.
Recognized as the junior volunteers with the most hours were Sara Eaves of Cape Girardeau, who has given 174 hours of her time to service at Southeast; Andrea Stephens of Cedar Hill, 101 hours; and Aaron Sutton of Thebes, Ill. with 97 hours.
During the past year, 48 student volunteers contributed a total of 1,168 hours of service, said Sargent. Leading in hours of service were Eli Branscum of Jackson, 77 hours; Jason Emmerderfer of Cape Girardeau, 73 hours; and Amy Ringwald of Cape Girardeau, 71 hours.
If total hours of service given by junior and student volunteers were computed at the national minimum wage level of $4.25 per hour, Sargent said the value of their donated labor would top $13,000.
The program is open to young people between the ages of 14 and 18.
