Southeast Missouri State University now offers three graduate programs in counseling accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs, a university news release said.
Southeast's master of arts program in career counseling has been approved for accreditation, while the university's master of arts programs in school counseling and mental health counseling have been reaccredited by the council, the release said.
In March 2016, Southeast will be asked to submit documentation it is maintaining a 10-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio in these programs, after which the programs will be approved through 2021, Diana Rogers-Adkinson, dean of Southeast's College of Education, said in the release.
Graduates of Southeast's master of arts in counseling programs are hired into mental health, career and school counseling positions, the release said. Many work in local school districts and community mental health centers in the region, she said in the release.
