DECATUR, Ala. -- Southeast Missouri State began its final golf competition well as the Redhawks are tied for third place after Monday's first round of the 54-hole Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.

Southeast, which is dropping its golf program following this season due to budget cuts, shot 291 at the Burningtree Golf Course to trail by four strokes.

Host Samford leads the 11-team event at 287, while Austin Peay has 290. Also at 291, along with the Redhawks, are Murray State and Eastern Kentucky.

The Redhawks' Brian Sheehan is tied for fourth individually after shooting a 2-under-par 70. Teammate Zach Decker is tied for sixth at 1-under 71.

Also for Southeast, Matt Hillis is tied for 21st (74), Brandon Couch is tied for 34th (76) and Mark Schmitz is tied for 48th (78).

Austin Peay's Justin Metzger leads at 4-under 68.
