The Jackson High School Symphonic Band and the Southeast Missouri State University Symphonic Wind Ensemble will perform at 8 p.m.. March 26 in Academic Auditorium.

The concert will feature guest conductor Lazlo Marosi and clarinet soloist Gabor Mihaltz, both from Budapest, Hungary. Marosi has traveled extensively as a guest conductor and lecturer. He has appeared in the United States five times.

General admission is $5 for the concert. Tickets for senior citizens and students are $3. University faculty, staff and students will be admitted free with valid identification cards.

Since 1982, almost all contemporary Hungarian wind-band music has been recorded by Marosi for Hungarian Radio. He has numerous records and CDs to his credit. He has conducted the Hungarian Central Army Band, the Army Academy Symphony Orchestra, the Franz Liszt Academy Band and the professional Budapest Symphonic Band. He currently is a professor of music at Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest.

Mihaltz also has toured throughout Europe with orchestras, often appearing as a featured soloist. Since beginning to teach clarinet in 1969 at the Music Teacher Training Institute of the Franz Liszt Academy, Mihaltz has served as the school's director. He is chairman of the wind music department.

He will present a master class for area clarinetists and teachers from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Room 200 of Brandt Hall.

The Jackson High School program has placed students in the highly competitive Missouri All-State Band.

The Southeast Symphonic Wind Ensemble has presented seven world premieres and 10 American premieres of works for the contemporary wind band. The ensemble has performed for the Missouri Music Educators and the College Band Directors National Association. The ensemble is conducted by Dr. Robert Gifford.
