Total enrollment is up 6.4 percent for all undergraduate and graduate students at Southeast Missouri State University, according to university officials.
There are 9,425 students enrolled, up from 8,854 at the same time last year.
A total of 8,540 of those are undergraduate students, up 7.6 percent from fall 2004, and 1,696 of those undergraduates are freshman, up 12.1 percent from 2004.
There are 1,484 freshmen are on the Southeast campus in Cape Girardeau.
At Southeast's regional campuses there are 313 students in Kennett, up 347 percent from 70 at this time last year. There are 205 students in Malden up, 90 percent from 108 in fall 2004. Officials report 636 in Sikeston, up 23 percent from 517 for the same time last year.
There are 885 graduate students at Southeast which is down 3.5 percent from last fall.
Debbie Below, the director of enrollment management and admissions, said enrollment is up in every category including online courses, transfer students and minority students.
On-campus housing is at 96 percent occupancy, Below said.
"This is the highest freshmen enrollment recorded in at least the last decade," said Dr. Dennis Holt, vice president for administration and enrollment management. "Overall, it's a historic high."
