Tuesday's closings and cancellations
The winter storm that continues to dump ice on the Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois region this morning has caused some power outages for AmerenUE customers, but so far the utility's outages aren't as widespread as those associated with the early February storm.
As of 6:30 a.m. AmerenUE was reported scattered outages in Southeast Missouri, including 279 without power in Delta and 378 customers without service in Essex.
Only seven customers were without power in Cape Girardeau ZIP codes, and 61 in and around Jackson.
Pockets of outages are also reported in Southern Illinois.
Information on outages with other utilities will be coming later this morning.
Some major area roads are covered or partly covered with ice, according to MoDOT's Traveler Information Map. Interstate 55 north of Cape Girardeau is covered almost to St. Louis, but clear south of Cape Girardeau. Highways 34 and 72 are partially covered.
Winter precipitation should continue to fall throughout the day, according to National Weather Service forecasts, with two to five inches of snow accumulation expected along a line from Mt. Vernon, Ill., to Van Buren, Mo., forecasts predict.
Some thunder is also possible today. Scott and Stoddard counties in Missouri should get less snow and ice than Cape Girardeau, Perry and Bollinger counties.
