JEFFERSON CITY - The Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has awarded a $45,000 grant to the Region R Solid Waste Management District in Southeast Missouri for organizational planning.
This is the second grant received by the district, for a total of $90,000.
The district includes Bollinger, Cape Girardeau, Iron, Madison, Perry, St. Francois and Ste. Genevieve counties.
The money will be used to develop a regional solid waste management plan for the district that will create programs to achieve a 40 percent reduction in the amount of solid waste being generated for disposal within the district by 1998.
The district's plan must be submitted to the DNR by Dec. 18, 1993. Each city and county in the district must individually adopt the solid waste management plan or prepare its own for DNR approval within 180 days after the district plan is submitted for approval.
