Social welfare group becomes Empower Missouri

The Missouri Association for Social Welfare may have a new name, but its mission remains the same.

During its annual conference in Jefferson City, Missouri, the social justice group unveiled its new name: Empower Missouri. It also unveiled a new blue and yellow logo.

A news release issued by the group said its board of directors worked for most of the year to select the new name and logo, and affirmed the name Empower Missouri at the Nov. 6 and 7 conference.

"Make no mistake. Our mission has not changed; we continue to press on for equality and social justice in Missouri," the news release said. "By updating our image, we hope to be more effective than ever before."

The group was recently introduced to the Southeast Missouri area, when the Cape Girardeau chapter held its first meeting in October.
