PEMISCOT COUNTY, Mo. -- The weekend snow storm claimed the life of a 51-year-old Pemiscot County woman who was seeking help after getting stuck in a snow drift. According to Pemiscot County Sheriff Tommy Greenwell, on Sunday the department received a report that Carolyn Brown, 51, of Caruthersville, Mo., was missing. Brown's family members said that Brown and her brother were traveling on County Road 344, on Saturday night when they got stuck in a snowdrift. According to family members, Brown left her brother and started walking to Caruthersville. Her brother contacted another relative to come get him, but they were unable to find Brown at any of the nearby addresses. Area law enforcement agencies, a local rescue unit, family members, and volunteers began conducting a search. At approximately 2:11 p.m. on Sunday, family members contacted the sheriff's department saying that they found Brown in a field approximately 100 yards east of County Road 344 and Missouri Route D extended. Brown appeared to have died due to exposure to the elements. Pemiscot County Coroner Jim Brimhall pronounced Brown dead at the scene. No evidence of foul play was located.
