KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) A slow-moving winter storm is closing schools and creating dangerous driving conditions in Missouri, especially in the northwestern and northern part of the state.

The National Weather Service in Kansas City said Wednesday that the storm is winding down, but another few inches of snow are likely. At least 6 inches has fallen in parts of northern Missouri and the total could reach 9 inches.

Brisk winds will cause blowing and drifting snow with near whiteout conditions at times, especially northwest of St. Joseph to Bethany. The storm is moving to the east across northern Missouri and into the central region.

In St. Louis, the National Weather Service reports up to 4 inches of rain in the area and there's a 50 percent chance of light snow.
