The inch or so of snow that fell overnight has made it rough for drivers. Scanner traffic Tuesday morning was busy. In Jackson, Lisa Miller of the police department said there had been four or five accidents as of 8:45.

Many drivers traveled with caution Tuesday morning along snow-covered and sometimes icy roads, according to Cape Girardeau County law enforcement.

Police officers in Cape Girardeau and Jackson, as well as the county sheriff's department, reported no accidents that resulted in injuries.

A dispatcher at the sheriff's department reported five weather-related accidents from 5 a.m. Tuesday through noon. In Jackson, a dispatcher reported five accidents before 9 a.m. Both officers said roads appeared to be clear and safe to travel by 3 p.m.

In Cape Girardeau, department spokesman Darin Hickey said officers responded to nine traffic related incidents and took five accident reports Tuesday.

Several Southeast Missouri schools canceled classes because of the snow, including Cape Girardeau, Scott City, Notre Dame Regional High School and St. Vincent High School in Perryville. Classes in the Jackson School District were held as scheduled.
