The Society of Manufacturing Engineers has awarded a $6,245 grant for software to help Southeast Missouri State University's industrial technology students prepare for the workplace.

The grant was awarded to Ted Loso, an industrial technology instructor at Southeast.

The award is part of $11.3 million in cash grants, in-kind gifts and awards presented to 102 universities and technical institutions by the SME this year.

Since SME's inception in 1979, it has awarded more than $5.3 million in cash and more than $19.3 million in equipment and software grants to 307 schools to promote manufacturing engineering programs.
