CHAFFEE -- Six teen-agers were injured Sunday night in a single-car accident near Chaffee.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Doyle McDowell, 17, of Essex was driving a 1989 Chevrolet west when it strayed off the right side of Route A two miles east of Chaffee and struck a tree.
McDowell received moderate injuries and was taken to Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau for treatment. Five passengers in the car were also injured. Glyn Denkins, 14, and Darrin Pullam, 16, both of Bloomfield, received minor injuries. Susan Schoen, 15, and Robin Garner, 14, both of Chaffee, and Kevin Vaughn, 15, of Essex, all received moderate injuries, police said.
All of the accident victims were taken to Southeast Missouri Hospital by ambulance.
Police said no one in the car was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
