SIKESTON, Mo. -- Six juveniles were arrested last week for burglary and property damage following an investigation by the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.

Sgt. Jim McMillen, public information officer for DPS, said the investigation began when a concerned parent spoke with a school resource officer about her son.

"The parent gave information about their son's possible involvement in some recent thefts," McMillen said in a news release.

For two days the Sikeston Criminal Investigative Unit interviewed suspects. Police had six juveniles in custody, and six felonies were cleared at the conclusion of the investigation. All of the cases -- three business burglaries, one residential burglary and two felony property damages occurred in the city of Sikeston.

Detectives were able to recover a small amount of the stolen property and have made arrangements to recover some more that was taken to the state of Mississippi.

"Public Safety will notify the owners of the recovered stolen property so please don't call," McMillen said.

All of the juveniles were taken to the Mississippi County Juvenile Detention Center where they will be held pending a formal hearing. According to the Scott County Juvenile Officer involved, some of the juveniles could stand to be certified as an adult for these charges.

"This was good police work by the officers involved," McMillen said. "We encourage anyone with information about any crime to contact us with the information. You can remain anonymous and your information may help us solve several cases."
