Six local girls will attend the 51st American Legion Auxiliary Girls State June 14-20 in Fulton. They will be among 600 girls from throughout the state attending the program designed to educate youth about duties, rights, privileges and responsibilities of American citizens...

Six local girls will attend the 51st American Legion Auxiliary Girls State June 14-20 in Fulton.

They will be among 600 girls from throughout the state attending the program designed to educate youth about duties, rights, privileges and responsibilities of American citizens.

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 63 of Cape Girardeau is sponsoring the local girls: Sarah Deimund, Susan Springer, Angela Judd, Lori Maurer, Shannon Hagan, and Kimberly Scherer. Shelby Holyfield and Takara Stanley were selected as alternates.

Deimund, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Keith Deimund of Cape Girardeau, attends Cape Girardeau Central High School. She is a member of the Spanish Club, Beta Club, Student Council, Chamber Choir, National Honor Society and has been a cast member in school musical. She attends First Baptist Church and is sponsored by the Lion's Club of Cape Girardeau.

Springer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Springer of Cape Girardeau, is a student of Notre Dame High School. She played varsity volleyball, is a cheerleader and member of the concert choir. She is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Cape Girardeau.

Judd, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Judd of Scott City, attends Notre Dame High School. She is a member of SADD, National Honor Society and plays varsity softball, basketball and volleyball. She is sponsored by Breakfast Optimist.

Maurer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Maurer of Cape Girardeau, attends Notre Dame High School. She is a member of National Honor Society, FBLA, Student Council, Concert Choir, Liturgy Committee, and the all-school musical cast. She plays basketball and softball and is sponsored by the Exchangettes Club of Cape Girardeau.

Hagan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pat Hagan of Cape Girardeau, is a student at Notre Dame High School. She is a Girl Scout, a member of Sadd, the St. Vincent Youth Group and a junior member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 63. She is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary of Cape Girardeau.

Scherer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Scherer of Cape Girardeau Route 2, attends Notre Dame High School. She is a junior member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 63, a member of the pep club, and a member of the newspaper and yearbook staff. She is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary of Cape Girardeau.
