Six senior Girl Scouts from Girl Scouts of Otahki Council will participate in Wider Opportunities this year.

Cadette or senior level Girl Scouts apply individually for Wider Opportunities and are chosen through a selection process at the local level and by the event host. Girls selected this year and their Wider Opportunities are:

Ashley Crocker, daughter of Linn and Avon Crocker of Cape Girardeau, and Sara Davie, daughter of Dixie and Randy Davie of Gordonville, have been elected to attend "From Footprints to Footlights" in New Jersey. The girls will attend a Broadway play, learn about women in media at the Museum of Television and Radio, tour Princeton University, take part in a simulated space mission, attend a professional sporting event and tour the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

Danielle Dewrock, daughter of Danny and Ann Dewrock of Cape Girardeau, will attend "Winter Sports" in Michigan. She will experience winter sports like skiing and snow-shoeing, attend a women's ice hockey clinic and explore Inuit culture and customs through a visit to the Dennos Museum.

Sarah Harvel of Cobden, Ill., daughter of Cindy Kelley and the late Charlie Harvel, will participate in "Outdoor Adventure Kaleidoscope" in Michigan. The program offers skills development in hiking, backpacking, canoeing, sailing, biking and camping.

Laura Mittrucker, daughter of Linda and Jim Mittrucker of Cape Girardeau, will participate in a sporting adventure at Mills College in Oakland, Calif. She will be able to try a variety of individual and team sports and learn tips on internal motivation and goal setting.

Becky Tompkins, daughter of Judy Tompkins of Cape Girardeau, will explore the Canadian wilderness. That program will feature canoeing, backpacking and working as a group.
