CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) -- Construction of a new transportation education center at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale is back on now that a lawsuit over how a builder for the $57 million project was picked has been dropped.
St. Louis-based K&S Associates Inc. had sued the state of Illinois after it submitted the lowest bid -- $37.4 million -- for the project. The state hired a Peoria company after deciding K&S's application was flawed.
K&S president Thomas Kraska says he dropped the lawsuit this week after figuring the state wasn't going to give up any time soon. He also says he didn't want to discourage the state from hiring him in the future.
The building will house the school's automotive and aviation program.
