SIKESTON -- Save-A-Lot, which over the past decade has grown to over 270 supermarkets in 17 states, next month will open its newest store in Sikeston on South Main Street.
"We've been working hard preparing for the opening of the new store," said Tim Maevers, supervisor of Heartland Warehouse Foods. "It's our belief that we selected a good location. We think it will do well."
Heartland Warehouse Foods, a Cape Girardeau based company, owns other grocery stores. The Sikeston Save-A-Lot is the newest addition.
The chain features 1,000 best-selling grocery items at low prices. Best-selling groceries are the favorite items and sizes of most shoppers.
A cost-savings method used by the store is displaying everything in the original shipping cartons. Price signs hang above each item. Although most of the brands carried are custom brands made for Save-A-Lot, some are national brands.
Consumers bag or box their own groceries. Empty cartons are available free of charge and bags are available at a nominal fee.
Clifford Barborek, who has 18 years of experience at Bunny Bread, will manage the new store.
Save-A-Lot is a St. Louis-based company and has most of its stores east of the Mississippi River.
