Among the many booths and displays at the SEMO District Fair this week will be a grain-engulfment simulator, to be used by emergency personnel for training.
The simulator will be on the fairgrounds at Arena Park, 410 Kiwanis Drive in Cape Girardeau, starting Tuesday. Fire departments from across the region will conduct simulated grain-engulfment training starting at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The simulator demonstrates entrapment dangers in grain bins and how responders can safely rescue victims.
Fairgoers are invited to observe the training, made possible by the University of Missouri Fire and Rescue Training Institute. Employees of the institute and fire department personnel will be available to answer questions about the simulator and training.
Participating departments include the Cape Girardeau Fire Department Technical Rescue Team, Sikeston Department of Public Safety, Jackson Fire Department and others involved in the Southeast Missouri Homeland Security Response Team.
