SIKESTON, Mo. -- A joyride went a little too far for two Sikeston women over the weekend, who were injured in a vehicle pursuit and later arrested.
The Sikeston Department of Public Safety received a call at 11:03 p.m. Saturday in reference to a stolen vehicle. Officers located the car and then followed it on a pursuit, after the vehicle "took off at a high rate of speed," said Capt. Dan Armour.
Driver Lacy L. Brown, 28, and passenger Audrey L. Cross, 37, were in the vehicle, which had been reported stolen by Brown's mother. Brown drove down South Frisco then crossed West Malone Avenue, where the vehicle jumped a ditch and later hit the railroad tracks.
The vehicle then progressed on North Frisco, where it became disabled due to the "considerable damage" from hitting the railroad tracks, according to Armour.
The two were injured due to air bags being deployed when the vehicle hit the tracks, and transported to Saint Francis Medical Center, where the women were treated and released.
Brown was later taken to the Scott County Jail, where she is currently being held under a $25,000 bond. Cross, charged with second-degree tampering, had a Scott City warrant and was in the city jail as of press time.
