Sikeston woman dies in car accident

SIKESTON, Mo. -- A Sikeston woman is dead after a car accident in Scott County early Friday morning, according to an online Missouri State Highway Patrol report.

The accident took place at 12:45 a.m. Friday on County Road 450, 0.4 miles east of U.S. 61 in Scott County, the report said. Laurajo J. McDowell, 26, of Sikeston was driving a 2004 Honda Civic.

The vehicle went off the right side of the road, returned to the roadway, then traveled off the left side of the road striking an embankment and a tree, overturning the car and ejecting the driver, the report said.

McDowell was pronounced dead at the scene by Scott County coroner Scott Amick.
