Sikeston shooting leaves three people hospitalized

Sikeston police reported a shooting incident early Tuesday morning on Davis Boulevard which left three people hospitalized.

Details about the incident were incomplete in a news release issued Tuesday afternoon by the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.

The report stated police responded to a call for help at 819 Davis Boulevard an apartment No. 5, where officers found three people injured and lying on the floor.

Michael Terry, 49, who resides in the apartment had three gunshot wounds. His wife, who was not named in the release, sustained two cuts and the suspect sustained multiple stab wounds. All were transported to a local hospital, the report said.

The time of the 911 call for help was not listed in the release and calls to Sikeston DPS were not immediately returned.

Terry was listed in serious but stable condition after surgery, his wife in stable condition and the suspect listed in serious condition after surgery. Two Medi-Vac helicopters were called to transport two of the injured to the hospital, the report said. South Scott County Ambulance Service provided medical assistance.

Sikeston DPS Director Drew Juden requested the activation of the SEMO Major Case Squad to conduct an investigation.

The ongoing investigation has thus far revealed that Terry was shot by the suspect through the front door of the apartment as he answered the suspect's knocks on the other side.

When the door was opened, a fight ensued between the suspect and Terry. During the altercation, Terry's wife came to his aid, the report said. Both the Terry and his wife were able to retrieve kitchen knives they used to stab the suspect multiple times in the fight.
