SIKESTON, Mo. — Vandalism to Sikeston R-6 school buses over the weekend forced the district to delay and rearrange bus routes Monday morning.

Sikeston R-6 Superintendent Steve Borgsmiller said whoever disabled the buses at the school's transportation department at 214 S. Ingram St. did so by pulling the valve stems out of 12 tires, leaving eight buses able to run. None of the tires were slashed, he said. Also, someone sprayed a fire extinguisher around the inside of one of the buses, he said.

School officials discovered the vandalism just before 6 a.m. Monday. The district had enough undamaged buses that it didn't really affect the school day, Borgsmiller said.

"We notified parents through our SIS (automated phone system) this morning," Borgsmiller said. "Everything is fixed. It could have been a lot worse."
