A Sikeston man was arrested Monday when police found him hiding in the closet of a home he broke into.
Kelan F. Watkins, 19, threw a concrete yard decoration through a glass storm door to enter a home on County Highway 403 in unincorporated Scott County near Benton around 3:40 a.m., according to a Scott County Sheriff's Department news release.
The resident of the home hid in the basement while Watkins allegedly searched the upper floor of her home, the release stated. The resident called the police from the basement.
A sheriff's deputy on patrol arrested Watkins when he found the defendant hiding in a closet in the home, the release stated.
Watkins was charged with first-degree burglary, misdemeanor stealing and property damage. Bond was set at $40,000.
