BENTON -- A 24-year-old Sikeston man was to appear in court today on assault and child endangerment charges.

David A. Scott was in custody, charged with first-degree assault and child endangerment, after allegedly attempting to use a power tool on his 17-month-old son.

Scott County Sheriff Bill Ferrell said the incident reportedly happened on June 25 at a rural Benton residence. Witnesses heard a child scream and saw Jones in the room with his son.

The child sustained several abrasions and was blistered from the incident.

Jones was being held on a $500,000 bond.
