CHARLESTON, Mo. -- The Missouri State Highway Patrol said a 64-year-old man died after falling from a boat in a Bootheel fishing lake.

Sikeston, Mo., resident Oscar Shannon was pronounced dead at about 2 p.m. Monday by the Mississippi County coroner.

Authorities said Shannon was fishing on Upper Big Lake in the Robert Delay Conservation Area. He lost his balance and fell overboard while trying to tie a rope to a tree.

The body was recovered near a cluster of trees in the lake.
