Sikeston man charged with dozens of child sex crime counts

BENTON, Mo. -- Following allegations of sex crimes brought forward last month, a Scott County grand jury has charged Ronald Sherrod for several crimes, including rape and armed criminal action.

Sherrod, 59, of Sikeston, Mo., is charged with 16 counts of statutory sodomy against two individuals who were under the age of 12 at the time; 12 counts of statutory sodomy for acts committed against females under the age of 17, 14 and 8 at the times of the crime; five counts of rape against another individual; five counts of armed criminal action for committing rape with the assistance and aid of a deadly weapon; one count of child molestation with a child less than 12 at the time; six counts of sexual misconduct involving a child less than 14 years of age at the time; and two counts of the misdemeanor of furnishing pornographic materials to minors, consisting of a video on computer of adults having sex to a person under the age of 18, while being aware of the victim's age.

Sherrod remained in custody at the Scott County Jail under two $100,000 cash-only bonds Thursday morning. He is set to appear in circuit court before Judge David A. Dolan at 1 p.m. today.
