SIKESTON, Mo. -- A Sikeston man remains in custody for the reported rape of a 5 year old.
Gabriel Dron Mitchell, 20, is charged with first-degree statutory rape, sexual intercourse with a child less than 14 years of age. He is being held in the Scott County Jail in lieu of a $150,000 cash-only bond.
Officers from the Sikeston Department of Public Safety began an investigation Aug. 10 after a physician reported a 5-year-old girl with a sexually transmitted disease. The child was subsequently taken to Beacon Health Center for a professional forensic interview/exam, as is normally done in this type of investigation, according to Sgt. Jim McMillen, DPS public information officer.
Information gathered during the forensic interview and exam led detectives to arrest of Mitchell on Aug. 10.
