A Sikeston, Missouri, man crashed his sport-utility vehicle after leading Cape Girardeau police on a chase for 17 miles Friday, police said.
He got out of the car and held a knife to a female passenger’s neck, saying he would kill her, police said.
Cape Girardeau police arrested David Allen Rodgers, 35. The Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney’s office charged Rodgers with felony resisting a lawful stop and unlawful use of a weapon.
Cape Girardeau police officer Joshua Potts attempted to pull Rodgers over, who was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer, for not having a front license plate and failing to signal, Potts wrote in a probable-cause statement.
Rodgers led a pursuit to Highway 177 and Indian Creek Lane, where Rodgers crashed by rolling over his vehicle, according to the statement.
Rodgers and a female passenger exited the vehicle, and Rodgers held the passenger in front of him with a knife to her neck, Potts wrote.
Rodgers eventually surrendered to police and tried to throw the knife and plastic bag containing what appeared to be marijuana away, according to the statement.
Potts later determined Rodgers and the woman were in an relationship. The prosecuting attorney has not filed charges against the woman.
