Sikeston man accused of breaking in, stealing prescription drugs

BENTON, Mo. -- A Sikeston man was being held in the Scott County Jail over the weekend on burglary and stealing charges.

Jason F. Roach, 35, has been charged with two counts of burglary, two counts of felony stealing and endangering the welfare of a child, according to a Friday news release from Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter.

The charges stem from two separate incidents this month on Lynn Street in the Mini Farm area north of Sikeston, according to Walter.

On March 21, a Mini Farm resident came home and discovered a vehicle occupied by a young child parked in his driveway. A person later identified as Roach was then seen walking from the breezeway of the residence. Roach, who reportedly gave the property owner a fictitious name, claimed he was looking for a person that the property owner was not familiar with. After Roach left the property owner noticed his home had been unlawfully entered and that two prescription bottles of generic Lorcet Plus were missing.

The second incident occurred on March 23, according to Walter, when a person in the same neighborhood discovered their residence had been unlawfully entered through a bathroom window. Prescription Xanax and Vicodin were missing from inside this home. A subsequent investigation revealed that a vehicle similar to Roach's vehicle was parked in the victim's driveway on the day of the burglary. The investigation also revealed that a person matching Roach's description was seen tampering with a window at the same residence.

As of press time, Roach remained in the Scott County Jail with a cash-only bond set at $50,000.
