The 66th annual Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo with nearly 40,000 people in attendance each year is set Aug. 8 through 11, featuring nightly rounds of bullriding and performances by country singers Chris Janson, Brett Young, Justin Moore and Travis Tritt.
2016 New Male Vocalist of the Year Chris Janson takes the stage Aug. 8 as the first musical performance of the week.
Every year, we try to bring in an area native whos made it big, 2018 Rodeo chairman Ross Merideth said in a news release. Chris Janson is an inspiration to many in Southeast Missouri because of his journey to country music stardom and local small-town roots. His performances are always dynamic as well as engaging, and were sure Wednesday night Rodeo goers will have a great time during his concert.
Brett Young is slated to perform Aug. 9. Young has three chart-topping platinum singles and was nominated for the 2018 Academy of Country Music New Male Vocalist of the Year award. Young also received two Association of Independent Music Publishers award nods: Writer of the Year and Song of the Year for Sleep Without You, according to the release.
Justin Moore, who has been active in the country music scene since 2008, will perform Aug. 10, according to the release. Moore grew up in Poyen, Arkansas, before moving to Nashville, Tennessee, in 2002. In 2011, Moore won two awards from the Inspirational Country Music Association, and in 2014 won New Artist of the Year from the Academy of Country Music.
Singer Travis Tritt was announced Friday as final entertainer of the week Aug. 11, according to the release.
Travis Tritt is a country music legend. His iconic songs have blared from radios for decades, Merideth said in the release. Having influenced and entertained millions, his concert is sure to be an unforgettable finale for the 2018 Rodeo season.
Tritt has won two Grammy awards, four Country Music Association awards and was named Billboards Top New Male Artist in 1990. The Recording Industry Association of America, according to the release, certified Tritts album, Its All About to Change as triple platinum.
Aug. 11 also will be Domestic Violence Awareness Night, with a portion of ticket sales donated to the House of Refuge.
We ask all Saturday attendees to join the Jaycees in wearing purple as we recognize the House of Refuge and the work they do for women and families across the region, Merideth said in the release.
