SIKESTON - Audra Lynn Sherman of Sikeston was selected the new Miss Missouri Teen USA 1991 at Columbia last weekend.
She was chosen over 28 other contestants from across the state at the March 30 pageant. They competed in personal interview, swimsuit and evening gown categories.
The Sikeston 18-year old was also chosen Miss Congeniality by her fellow contestants.
Among the prizes she received were a $40,000 scholarship to Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, a $1,500 pageant gown for her national competition, a $1,000 wardrobe budget for the Miss Teen USA competition in Biloxi, Miss., $500 cash, and several items and gift certificates from sponsors of the pageant.
Sherman is a senior at Sikeston High School and president of the senior class. She also is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council and Writer's Club.
She's a five-year veteran of the Sikeston cheerleading squad, and has won several other teen pageants.
Sherman plans to get a liberal arts degree in speech and communication and a law degree. She is the recipient of a $10,000 scholarship at the University of Mississippi-Oxford.
Sherman is the daughter of Ron and Karen Carmody of Sikeston, and the late John T. Sherman of Lilbourn. Her grandparents are Lynn and Betty Thompson of Cape Girardeau and Lindell and Irene Hunt of Sikeston.
