SIKESTON, Mo. -- It's out with the old and in with the new at the Sikeston Sports Complex.

Sikeston City Council members approved bids during Monday's special briefing session which will replace the 27 year-old concession stand in the middle of the complex's north quadrant for the Babe Ruth fields.

"It is one of the original concession stands from when the complex was built in '75," said Jiggs Moore, parks supervisor. "This is the last one."

The bid to demolish the existing concession stand was awarded to Frank Ferrell who offered the low bid of $3,700.

The bid to build the new concession stands went to KDI Construction of Poplar Bluff which submitted the lowest of the five bids received by the city, offering to complete the project for $161,000. Moore noted for comparison that last year the city paid $158,605 for essentially the same project.

The new concession stand will have the same footprint as the current building but will feature larger restrooms, and better electrical outlets for field lighting, Moore said. "It's going to be a more modern facility."

The demolition is slated to be completed between Nov. 9 and 18, with the contractor to be ready to begin Nov. 18.
