SIKESTON, Mo. — A child was injured after being struck by a vehicle while waiting for a school bus Monday in Sikeston.

According to a Sikeston Department of Public Safety report, at 7:51 a.m. officers went to Smith Avenue and North Sixth Street where a child had been struck by a

vehicle.

Children were waiting for the school bus on both sides of the street when a child from one side wanted to talk to children on the other side of the street, Sikeston DPS Capt. Bill Mygatt said. The child ran across the street and was struck by a vehicle, Mygatt said.

The child, 9, was taken by ambulance to a Cape Girardeau hospital.

No other information was available as of Tuesday morning.
