SIKESTON, Mo. -- Jamieon Q. Mosby, an 8-month-old child from Sikeston, died Wednesday night at St. Louis Children's Hospital, according to a news release from the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.
Now Kevin Dixon, once charged with abuse and assault in the March 24 incident that led to the child's death, has been charged with first-degree murder by the Scott County Prosecuting Attorney's office.
According to Sikeston DPS, officers responded to 306 Sunset in Sikeston around 2 p.m. on March 24 in reference to an 8-month-old child who was not breathing. Sikeston's Criminal Investigations Unit began an investigation to determine the cause of the child's trauma.
Officers learned that Kevin Dixon, the mother's boyfriend, was caring for the child when the injuries occurred. Detectives conferred with physicians regarding the injuries the child sustained. Apparently the child had injuries consistent with high impact blunt force trauma. On Monday, Dixon met detectives for an interview. Dixon was subsequently arrested and charged for child abuse and first-degree assault.
Dixon remains in custody at the Scott County Jail on $100,000 cash only bond.
