Sigma Pi names honorary member

Brenda Schloss was named an honorary member of Southeast Missouri State University's chapter of Sigma Pi Kappa, the international honor society for historic preservation students, faculty and distinguished individuals at the Historic Preservation Commission meeting at Cape Girardeau City Council chambers recently.

Schloss received the award for her extensive activity in the field of historic preservation. Since becoming a city employee 15 years ago, Schloss has served as the liason for the city with the Historic Preservation Commission since it was established.

She has played an instrumental role in helping to create a historic preservation master plan, design guidelines, coloring book; administer a grant for the James Reynolds House and helping as a preparer on the national register nomination of Old Lorimer Cemetery.

Schloss promotes historic preservation within the community by educating the public on Cape Girardeau's local landmarks program, the National Register of Historic Places, rehabilitation tax credits and revitalization of the downtown district.She played an instrumental role in helping to establish the Red House Interpretive Center.
