Siblings waive hearings in robbery case

A brother and sister charged in the July robbery of a 14-year-old boy -- in which he also claims to have been beaten -- waived their rights to preliminary hearings Wednesday.

Judge Gary Kamp bound Sierra L. Irions, 18, and Ryan G. Irions, 17, to circuit court, where they will face felony robbery charges that carry maximum prison sentences of 15 years. Michael Sato represents Sierra Irions; Beverly Lauren Taylor represents Ryan Irions.

The siblings will appear before Judge Benjamin Lewis on Jan. 14. They remained in custody at the Cape Girardeau County Jail on Wednesday in lieu of $30,000 bond; both have asked for a reduced bond.

Charges stem from a July 21 incident in which a 14-year-old Cape Girardeau boy claims the pair were two of four people who jumped him on Perryville Road and stole two cellphones.

No suspects were identified for nearly five months, until the victim recognized the pair during a chance encounter at a fast-food restaurant.
